Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple’s upcoming iOS 18 will introduce several AI-driven functionalities.
These features are expected to be a major focus at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). In his “Power On” newsletter, Gurman outlined Apple’s strategy of integrating practical AI tools into everyday applications such as Safari, Photos, and Notes.
The reported upcoming AI features include:
- Photo retouching
- Voice memo transcription
- Suggested replies to emails and messages
- Auto-generated emojis tailored to message content, expanding beyond the current emoji set
- Improved Safari web search
- Enhanced and more reliable Spotlight searches
- More natural interactions with Siri
- An advanced Siri for the Apple Watch, optimized for on-the-go tasks
- Smart recaps of missed notifications, messages, web pages, news articles, documents, notes, and more
- Developer tools for Xcode
Apple’s AI enhancements will operate differently based on their processing demands. Less intensive features will run entirely on-device, ensuring privacy and efficiency. More demanding tools will leverage cloud processing. This hybrid approach will allow Apple to emphasize the privacy benefits of on-device processing while still delivering powerful AI capabilities.
To manage user expectations, Apple might initially release many of these new AI tools as a “preview” in beta versions of iOS 18. This will indicate that the technology is still being refined before the official launch in September.
