I’m normally not one to really watch a lot of the music reality competitions that have been seemingly taking over TV lately. But every once in a while I hear something so emotionally powerful that it instantly draws me in. And this time, the sound came from a very unexpected place. I’m talking about teen sensation Carly Rose Sonenclar who appeared on X-Factor this past week and has been blowing up Youtube lately with her incredible rendition of Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good.”
This 13-year-old powerhouse vocalist has turned into a superstar seemingly overnight after her Providence audition on X-Factor made its way to Youtube. The audition video currently has over 3.7 million views on the video sharing website and has seen over 80,000 likes and 8,600 comments in just 6 days. And its no surprise after you hear Carly’s astonishing cover of the popular low-keyed song. In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if Michael Buble (who did a crooner inspired version of the tune) wasn’t absolutely floored by her genuine sound.
All of the judges, including new faces Demi Lovato and Britney Spears, gave the teen starlet a standing ovation and were quick to give the rising star a four-yes pass onto the next stage of the competition. Usually hard-to-please judge Simon Cowell even went as far as to label Carly an instant sensation, urging to the crowd that a “star has just walked out on the stage.” He also went on to joke that surely that voice was not coming from the 13-year-old and that a separate singer must be hiding somewhere backstage.
