Exclusive Apple Pay event in San Francisco

Apple is holding an Apple Pay shopping event from 23rd to 25th June in San Francisco and is offering exclusive discounts for shoppers using the mobile payment service.

The event will take place in Hayes Valley and the Marina and shops involved include Benefit, Azalea and Bulo. The Lose Your Wallet page offers a full list of the shops offering the service in each area, most offering between a 10% and 25% discount.

The page also includes exclusive app and partner offers, including Caviar offering $5 off your order and Pay by Phone offering the chance to win a month of free parking, with four winners everyday.

Their new campaign Lose Your Wallet advertises Apple Pay which is available in 15 countries worldwide and works using your finger print on your iPhone, making the payment process even faster for apps as well as in stores.

The process is secured using a method known as ‘tokenization’ which prevents credit card numbers being sent over the air.  Apple is aiming to replace the wallet, removing the struggle to find cards buried in purses and wallets.

As of December 2016, 35% of merchants in the US accepted Apple Pay, an impressive increase from 4% in 2014.  However, only around 13% of iPhone users have actually used Apple Pay, as of April 2017.  Despite these low numbers, Apple Pay has been adopted faster than other payment services, according to Eddy Cue, Apple iTunes chief.  He believes it is set to replace cash, debit and credit cards in the future.
