Since early Tuesday morning Apple’s iCloud back up service has not been available to some users. The issue is still currently ongoing, with no indication as to when it will be fixed.
What’s the issue?
The iCloud back up service offers customers the option to back up their device in case their phone is lost or damaged or in case of a major system failure. However, since 8am Pacific on Tuesday, a small number of customers no longer have access to this.
On Apple’s support page they indicate that 1% of users are affected by what they are calling an iCloud Backup Outage. This seems a small number but in fact encompasses hundreds of thousands of users.
Who is affected?
The customers most affected are those who are setting up a new device. They will be unable to set up their new device using an iCloud backup and instead must set it up as a new device or restore it from a local back up. iCloud back ups save everything from apps, to messages, to photographs, but these will now be unavailable.
iCloud is not just used on phones and tablets but is also available for the Apple Watch.
Apple does not indicate when the issue will be fixed.
