Rumor: Two month delay to new iPhone 8

Several reports are suggesting that there will be a delay to the production of Apple’s iPhone 8.  The iPhone 8 is not short of rumors surrounding it and it is possible that this is once again another rumor. Only time will tell.

How long will we have to wait for the new iPhone?

The news comes from DigiTimes who state that the release of the new phone could be delayed from September until November or even December.  The report also suggests that Apple will only ship the phone in small quantities initially:

“While there were previous reports indicating that volume production for new iPhone devices has commenced, yield rates at the two main ODMs, Foxconn Electronics and Pegatron, have not yet reached levels that warrant mass production.”

Rumors are also rife surrounding what could be called the iPhone 7s, the upgrade to the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.  It is thought that production for this upgrade is also delayed.

Who should we believe?

There is never a shortage of rumors surrounding Apple’s products and this latest follows the same trend we see with every new iPhone release.  With each new phone rumors of delays spark, although perhaps we are seeing even more this time.

The new features are some of the more complex and biggest upgrades Apple has introduced between phones.  The wireless charging, 3D sensors and augmented reality features could all be contributing to the delays. Are you willing to wait longer to ensure you can get your hands on these groundbreaking new features?

The delays also match reports from alaysists Wamsi Mohan and Stefano Pascale of Bank of America.  After their visit to Apple supplier in Asia, they reported that the realease of the phone could be delayed up three or four weeks.  They suggested this was a result of quality issues with the Touch ID fingerprint senseor and the 3D camera sensor.

All these rumors are consistent enough for the delays to be a real possibility.  This is the longest delay to have been rumored so far.  Will we really have to wait until December for our first look at the new iPhone?
