Apple announce new emojis to celebrate World Emoji Day

You might have noticed yesterday was world emoji day and what better way for Apple to celebrate than through a whole range of new emojis for iOS?

What’s not to love about World Emoji Day, especially when new emojis are announced. Even the Empire State Building is joining in the celebrations and was lit up in yellow to mark the occasion.

The new emojis are likely to be introduced in iOS 11, which is due to be released in the fall. The head of the emoji resource Emojipedia and creator of World Emoji day, Jeremy Burge, was pleased Apple finally acknowledged the day.  The reason he created the day initially was as a result of Apple’s emoji calendar showing July 17th.

A whole host of new emojis

“What emojis will be included in the release?” is the question on everyone’s lips.  Apple have created everything from a breastfeeding lady to a man sporting a beard.  Even more food items will be created, a sandwich and a coconut, for example, and, everyone’s favourite, more smileys.  There will be an exploding head smiley, a vomiting one and even a starry eyed smiley.

According to Burge, the smileys and gestures are always the most popular.  These emojis always feature at the top of stats lists for Twitter and Facebook.  However, if you prefer more wacky emojis, you won’t be disappointed.  The new update will bring a T-rex, a zombie and even an elf to your iPhone.

Notable missing emojis

As always, there are some emojis that will not feature that perhaps should. Dominating the Emojipedia requests page is a redhead character who will now be expected to feature in the 2018 update.  A curly haired person and a bald headed person also failed to feature.  Demand has also been high for two hands that create a heart, however, again this does not feature.

When can you get your hands on them?

To get the starting exploring uses for the new emojis, the App store will be outlining creative ways to use them.  Apple didn’t state a specific launch date for the new emojis, however, it is expected they will come to our iPhones this fall.
