More than half of all iPhones released in the past four years now run iOS 13.

Apple released the first statistics of iOS 13 adoption yesterday, showing off the percentage of iPhone users who have upgraded to the operating system since September 19th.

Released to the App Store Developers page, Apple shows that iOS 13 has been installed on 55% of iPhones introduced in the past four years, and 50% of all iPhone devices.

The data is taken from App Store activity, so it’s not 100% accurate but offers a fair estimation.

This figure puts iOS 13 on par with last year’s iOS 12, which had been installed on 53% of devices in a similar timeframe, though the device breakdown for last year’s report differed.

In 2019, Apple has broken down the statistics differently, with iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 now two separate entities, having been released at different times.

Apple has suggested that 41% of iPhones from the past four years has upgraded to iPadOS, with 33% of all active iPads on iPadOS – bear in mind that compatibility for the iPad-centric OS was tight and that it wasn’t released until late September, this is an impressive feat.

iOS 13 introduces a bunch of new features including a system-wide Dark Mode, redesigned Reminders, Notes and Photos apps, and new privacy and security features like Sign In With Apple.

iPad-centric updates include a new-look home screen and SideCar compatibility with the Mac, allowing users to convert their iPad into a second macOS display for productivity.
