A new report has crowned Apple as the most popular smartphone manufacturer in the United States amongst teenagers, with 83 percent of those surveyed owning an iPhone.

Piper Jaffray’s Taking Stock with Teens survey saw more than 8,000 high school students from across the United States take part, and Apple came out on top in the smartphone category – as usual.

What’s notable about this year’s results, however, is how far ahead Apple is.

83 percent of US teens surveyed claimed that they were iPhone owners, and just 9 percent said they were Android users.

When it comes to future smartphone purchases, 86% said that they wanted their next smartphone to be an iPhone.

Apple Watch growing in popularity

Apple Watch also fared well in the report, with 20% of the teens surveyed owning an Apple-branded smart watch. Apple’s nearest competitor, the Samsung Gear, came out with just 2%.

In addition, 22% of teens in the United States said they’d purchase an Apple Watch within the next six months, although in the fall, 23% said they’d buy one.

Snapchat the most popular video-sharing app

The report also honed in on social media, with Snapchat again considered the favorite social networking platform amongst teenagers. The video-sharing app, which has been hemorrhaging users in recent months, was the most popular app amongst 41 percent of teenagers surveyed, compared to Instagram with 35 percent.
