A Great Game Allowing You to Refight the Battle of Waterloo

It is this coming Thursday, June 18, which marks the bicentenary of the Battle of Waterloo – one of the most important battles in European history, as it saw the final destruction of the empire of Napoleon Bonaparte, one of history’s greatest commanders. But history repeats itself, so the saying goes – and you can actually repeat history yourself by playing a great computer game to refight Waterloo.

What game are we talking about? The turn-based strategy game of Napoleon: Total War! Part of the long-running and popular Total War series of strategy games, it is available for both Windows and Mac OS X and allows players to don Napoleon’s instantly recognizable hat and uniform and engage in major battles of his career in Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East.

Playing this game, you could fight in the Battle of the Pyramids, where Napoleon’s army almost completely wiped out the Egyptian army in 1798. You can also refight the Battle of Austerlitz, where Napoleon – in what is often considered his greatest ever military victory – decisively defeated a bigger Russo-Austrian army in 1805. And then, of course, there’s Waterloo. Watch the gameplay trailer below to learn more about how you could – in the virtual world, anyway – change history.
