Apple has accidentally previewed a new AirPods design in its iOS 13.2 beta.
The company is widely rumored to release a third-generation AirPods product before the end of the year, and the leak inside of iOS 13.2 beta code suggests they could be coming soon.
The new AirPods will feature active noise control, also known as noise cancellation, as well as an “all-new design” to encourage consumers to upgrade from the first AirPods model.
Reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has been teasing the new AirPods for a number of months and has suggested that they will launch later this year or early next year.
With Apple expected to host an event this month to show off new MacBooks and iPads, this month would be as good a time as any to show off the AirPods 3, so we could see them in a few weeks’ time.
The beta release of iOS 13.2, expected to be released later this month, shows an icon that displays a redesigned AirPods design with rubber ear tips, which would be needed to offer noise cancelation on the wireless earbuds.
The icon is saved under the file name B298, and the image is contained in the Accessibility settings folder, which could perhaps suggest that the new AirPods offer accessibility features such as being able to use them as hearing aids or integrating with the current Live Listen.
Last month, 52 Audio shared a leaked photo of the proposed AirPods 3 design and casing, confirming the design of the new AirPods and suggesting a release is just around the corner.
