Apple has reportedly sent its AirPods 3 earphones into mass production.
It had been thought that the company would announce them at this year’s California Streaming event, but that did not turn out to be the case. Still, it’s been reported by DigiTimes suppliers in China have begun shipments of the new earphones.
According to DigiTimes, shipments of the AirPods had been ‘slow’ but added that production being underway suggests that their release is imminent. Apple has been expected to announce new products such as MacBooks and could host a second event this month.
However, some previous AirPods models have been announced via a press release, so they could be announced this way again.
It’s expected that the new AirPods will follow the same design language as the AirPods Pro, but will naturally not include professional features like active noise cancellation. We don’t know yet whether they’ll come with silicone ear tips, either.
Apple last updated its AirPods back in March 2019, so they’re long overdue a refresh.
