Apple will announce third-generation AirPods at next week’s Unleashed event.
According to a leaker on Chinese social networking website Weibo, Apple will showcase the third-generation AirPods at the keynote. However, this isn’t the first time that AirPods 3 have been rumored to be released – we’ve been hearing since the company’s Spring Loaded event earlier in the year that AirPods were imminent, so whilst it would make sense that they’re coming at this upcoming event, we should take the rumor with a pinch of salt until we hear anything concrete.
@PandaisBald has suggested that the AirPods 3 will launch alongside new Macs this week, and the leaker has a proven track record when it comes to Apple events. Indeed, they predicted the launch of the ninth-generation iPad at last month’s California Streaming event.
Apple is widely expected to overhaul the AirPods with a new design that’s similar to AirPods Pro, but without the premium features like Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency Mode. A separate report suggests that Apple will add a 20% larger battery to the third-generation AirPods, too.
The company is also expected to offer wireless charging as standard, meaning a wired charging version won’t be offered. This could be a way for Apple to increase the value of AirPods sales.
