AirPower and upgraded AirPods to come soon

A pair of upgraded AirPods rests on a light wooden surface next to their matching charging case. The case is closed, and the earbuds are positioned with the speaker ends facing upward. The setup is minimalistic and clean.

As well as a series of new iPads, including two Pros and a Mini, Apple are also set to release a new MacBook Pro and iPad Touch. In addition to the series of new models, the tech giant are finally set to get around to releasing their future generation of AirPods and AirPower wireless charging mat. The new AirPods and charging mat are set for release in the first half of 2019.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo released a research note to clients, stating: “The new AirPods support wireless charging and upgraded Bluetooth connectivity, and AirPower will start shipping in 1H19.”

Rumours of the past have long suggested that 2019 will be the year that we will be gifted with updated AirPods and a wireless charging case. It may also be that the updated AirPods come with health monitoring features, much similar to the Apple Watch. That said, Kuo’s research note made no suggestion of such fitness tracking capabilities. Though, with wireless charging seemingly on the horizon, there’s reason to remain positive.

AirPower was previously scheduled for release in 2018, after being shipped in 2017 but its release was hit with delays. Reasons for the delays were put down to interference and heat issues. The project is now back on the right track and will be released in due course.

In regards to the next generation AirPods, it’s likely that the wireless earbuds will share a design similar to the original. Slight differences are likely to be a textured surface for improved grip and they may be also available in a new black colour.
