An Amazon Fire TV and a bag of popcorn were both ordered by an Amazon user near Cambridge in England. 13 minutes later, both items were in the user’s back yard. After years of development and testing, Amazon Prime Air has launched and completed its very first delivery in no time at all.
The super-quick drone delivery service will cut down delivery costs and enable users to receive their items in a matter of minutes. However, because of the size of the drone, only products five pounds and under are eligible for delivery, making certain items unavailable for Prime Air delivery.
Before Amazon Prime Air can fully get off of the ground it will need to get the proper permission to occupy certain air space in the countries it serves. The test program is only delivering to two customers at the moment, but Amazon has sights to expand this to hundreds of potential customers.
