American Airlines now offering Apple TV+ content on flights

An American Airlines airplane is stationed at an airport gate, surrounded by ground support vehicles and equipment. The sky is clear with faint contrails, and additional planes are visible in the background. Nearby, a traveler watches Apple TV+ as they await their flight.

American Airlines and Apple have partnered to offer free access to some of Apple’s original shows as in-flight entertainment, in yet another attempt to increase TV+’s subscription count.

Select Apple TV+ shows are now available to watch when traveling across the United States and internationally on America, including Defending Jacob, Dickinson, and The Morning Show, and it’s thought that content will be rotated each month to keep things fresh.

Last year, Apple and American Airlines came together to offer free access to Apple Music on aircraft with Viasat satellite technology, without the need to pay for a WiFi service on-board. However, to listen to Apple Music, travelers must have an active Apple Music subscription.

Bringing Apple TV+ content to American Airlines gives Apple another chance to show off its premium content and encourage consumers to subscribe to the streaming platform once they have landed.

Apple is reportedly facing challenges in getting consumers to sign up to and engage with content on the platform, despite offering a one-year free trial to anyone who purchases a new iPad, iPhone, or Mac.

Whether this promotion will make a difference remains to be seen, but it’s nevertheless an intelligent pair-up between the two companies.

Back on the ground, Apple TV+ is available via the Apple TV app on iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Apple TV boxes and Macs, and the app is also available on Fire TV, Roku TV, LG and Samsung TVs, and online via the Apple TV+ website.
