Analyst Doubts Wisdom of Salesforce.com Acquiring Twitter

Contrary to what a Bloomberg report suggested at the weekend, a Salesforce.com acquisition of Twitter could seemingly still happen – but a high profile analyst has doubted that the deal would make sense.

Speaking on CNBC’s Squawk on the Street, Robert Kindler, vice chairman and global head of M&A at Morgan Stanley, admitted: “People aren’t yet getting Salesforce and Twitter.” The cloud computing firm’s attempt to buy LinkedIn, on the other hand, “made perfect sense.”

Earlier today, sources reportedly told CNBC that Salesforce and Twitter were still discussing a potential deal, despite the latter’s board being split on whether the social media company should be sold. Twitter will perhaps try to negotiate a deal with Salesforce in the near term, as per the sources.

Still, Kindler conceded that Salesforce has to do more to convince a skeptical Wall Street that acquiring the long-beleaguered Twitter would be a wise move for Marc Benioff’s company. Kindler observed that “when deals are out there that the Street doesn’t like … you know boards listen to that, so we’ll see if a Salesforce deal happens.”
