App for Controlling Volvo Car from Apple Watch Due Soon

A number of big name car manufacturers, among them Porsche and BMW, have unveiled apps that can be used to control their cars from an Apple Watch. Another manufacturer that has just joined them is Volvo, as an Apple Watch version of its On Call platform is due to become available from the end of June.

Using this app on the Apple Watch, it will be possible for a Volvo car owner to remotely turn the vehicle on, switch on its climate control functions, look on a map to find exactly where the it is, and check how high the fuel level is. Other possibilities with the app will include being sent a notification if the car’s doors have accidentally been left unlocked.

Accompanying the app when it arrives will be an update to On Call enabling mobile device users to remotely send driving directions to a Volvo car. This certainly looks like an app that can – metaphorically, of course – put you in the driving seat.
