Apple adds new features to Podcasts app on iOS 14.6 beta following criticism

Apple Music

Apple has made some significant changes to the Apple Podcasts app in iOS 14.6, following criticism from users and technology critics of the new Podcasts app released with iOS 14.5.

After removing these features from the previous version, it’s now possible to mark all episodes as played, remove downloaded podcast episodes, and recover episodes as part of the iOS 14.6 update. Apple overhauled the way Podcasts work on iOS 14.5, and as a result, many shows seemed as if they had hundreds of new episodes available to listen to, when in fact, they were years old. The new Mark All As Played button should help to resolve this.

In iOS 14.6 beta code, it’s also possible to remove recovered episodes from your device.

Right now, it’s not possible to recover episodes, and it’s likely that this will be a feature exclusive to macOS.

Although it’s clear that developers have acted quickly on criticisms over the new Podcasts app, Apple still has a long way to go to create a world-leading podcast platform and compete against the likes of Google Podcasts and Spotify, especially now it offers a subscription service for individual podcast episodes.
