An anonymous source with a history of accurate information has shared potential new features coming to the iPhone with iOS 17. These features include improvements to Search, Dynamic Island, Control Center, and more. The source also mentioned that Apple is testing interactive widgets for the Home Screen and Today View, but it is unclear if this feature will make the final cut.
According to the source, the interactive widgets being tested include one-tap buttons, sliders, and other dynamic content. Currently, Home Screen widgets introduced with iOS 14 offer limited functionality, as stated in Apple’s developer documentation: “Widgets present read-only information and don’t support interactive elements such as scrolling elements or switches.” This could be due to battery life considerations.
The same source previously leaked accurate details about the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 14 Pro before its announcement. However, it remains to be seen whether all the latest details shared will be accurate this time, as the source’s long-term track record with Apple rumors has not been established.
Apple is expected to announce iOS 17 during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2023 keynote on June 5, with the first beta version likely to be available to developers for testing later that day.
The first public beta is anticipated for release in July.
