Apple has announced the third-generation AirPods at its Unleashed virtual event.
The long-rumored earphones have received a major refresh, and suggestions that they’d adopt a similar design to the AirPods Pro were true, with the models now featuring spatial audio, as well as an H1 chip and a new acoustic system that offers a superior sound experience when compared to its predecessor.
Apple has made the new AirPods 3 sweat and water-resistant, making them the ideal companion whether you’re at the gym or out on a run this winter, and the Airpods offer spatial audio featuring Dolby Atmos in Apple Music and TV shows, ideal for streaming the latest episode of The Morning Show or brand new show Acapulco.
AirPods 3 feature a force sensor which offers easy, intuitive control of music and phone calls, and the battery life has been supercharged with this year’s release, with Apple claiming the AirPods can offer up to six hours of listening time, which rises to 30 hours of listening time when you factor in the charging case.
Speaking of the release, Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said: “AirPods forever changed wireless headphones with their groundbreaking design, incredible sound, and magical experience.
“We are excited to introduce the next generation of AirPods, featuring unrivaled sound through Adaptive EQ and spatial audio with dynamic head tracking, along with seamless interaction between Apple devices — making the world’s best-selling headphones even better.”
Consumers can order their AirPods 3 from the Apple website today, and they’re priced at $179 in the United States, shipping next Tuesday (October 26). The second-generation remain available, now priced at $129.
