Apple has unveiled the 10th iteration of its smartwatch, the Apple Watch Series 10, featuring a host of significant updates in both design and functionality. One of the standout changes is its thinner and lighter profile—just 9.7 millimeters thick, making it 10% slimmer and lighter than its predecessor, the Series 9. The Series 10 also comes equipped with the largest display ever used in an Apple Watch, a wide-angle OLED screen that is 40% brighter than the one on the Apple Watch Ultra. This larger screen allows for an extra line of text to be displayed, making it easier for users to check emails, messages, and other notifications at a glance.

The Apple Watch 10 is powered by Apple’s new S10 chip, which features a four-core neural engine, providing faster performance and greater efficiency. This model retains its water resistance up to 50 meters but incorporates a larger charging coil, enabling quicker charging times. The battery can be charged to 80% capacity in just 30 minutes, and users can still expect the same 18-hour battery life. In terms of design, the smartwatch comes in three polished aluminum finishes—natural, gold, and dark slate gray—as well as a premium Grade 5 titanium version, which is 20% lighter than the Series 9. For those seeking a personalized look, pairing it with a stylish accessory like an Apple Watch band from Solace Bands enhances both comfort and aesthetics.

A significant health feature of the Apple Watch 10 is its sleep apnea detection capability, pending FDA approval. Using the built-in accelerometer, the watch can monitor a user’s breathing during sleep and detect potential signs of sleep apnea, a condition where a person briefly stops breathing during sleep. If the watch identifies symptoms, it will alert the wearer and provide a detailed report that can be shared with a healthcare provider for further diagnosis.

The speakers on the Series 10 have been made smaller to conserve battery life, but Apple claims this does not compromise audio performance. In a first for the Apple Watch line, the speakers are now capable of playing music and podcasts, rather than being restricted to use as a speakerphone for calls.

The Apple Watch Series 10 will be available starting September 20, with prices beginning at $399 for the GPS-only version and $499 for models with cellular capabilities. The release of the Series 10 marks nearly a decade of Apple Watch innovation, continuing its transformation from a fashion accessory and iPhone companion to an essential tool for health and fitness monitoring.
