Apple announces Apple Watch Series 7 at California Streaming event

Apple has announced the Apple Watch Series 7 at its California Streaming event.

The Cupertino company showed off the redesigned wearable at its virtual event, featuring an engineered Always-On Retina display with thinner bezels, offering an all-screen design that puts your content at the forefront.

Apple says it’s the “largest and most advanced display ever”, and the new display maximizes the screen area without changing the dimensions of the watch itself. Although many had reported that Apple would introduce an all-new design for the Apple Watch with a squared-edge design, the Series 7 looks similar to previous models.

The company says the Apple Watch Series 7 has been refined with “softer, more rounded corners”, and a new refractive edge which makes the watch face and apps appear to connect to the curvature of the case. Apple has also added two stunning new watch faces – Contour and Modular Duo – to work alongside the new device.

Other changes include more crack-resistant crystal on the front of the display and an IP6X certification for resistance to dust. There are no new health features as part of this year’s release, but the Apple Watch 7 does come with the electrical heart sensor and ECG app, as well as a Blood Oxygen sensor and app.

Speaking of the launch, Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer, said: “Apple Watch Series 7 delivers significant improvements — from our largest and most advanced display, to enhanced durability and faster charging — making the world’s best smartwatch better than ever before. Powered by watchOS 8, Apple Watch brings useful new capabilities to help customers stay connected, track activity and workouts, and better understand their overall health and wellness.”
