The press release also outlined some of the new responsibilities that these individuals will be getting:
Eddy Cue will now be heading up Siri and Maps in addition to his responsibilities with the App Store, iTunes, the iCloud, and the iBookstore. This will place all of Apple’s online services into one area with one development team. This will help create a better bond across all of Apple’s stores and services.
Bob Mansfield will take over the Technologies sector. This group will include all of Apple’s wireless teams, which will allow for even greater innovation to grow at a much more rapid pace. This group is also going to absorb the semiconductor teams, which are said to have some great plans for the future.
Craig Federighi is going to be heading up the iOS and OS X sectors of the company. These groups are all responsible for Apple’s amazing, innovative, and user-friendly operating systems. By combining the two into one group, it will allow Apple to usher in an area of even better OS for all of their devices.
Jony Ive will take creative control over the Human Interface and Industrial Design aspects of the tech company. These areas will define all of the physical manifestations at Apple, and the company has praised Jony Ive’s incredibly artistic talent and flair for modern looks.
John Browett will also be leaving the company, and human resources will be attempting to find a suitable Lead of Retail to put in his place. The Retail group is responsible for all of Apple’s gorgeous and innovative looking physical locations that sell products to the general public. Apple has been popping up retail locales all around the globe this past year, and their growth has been outstanding. For now, until a proper replacement is found, the retail team will report directly to CEO Tim Cook.
Tim Cook also snuck a direct quote about the matter into the released document:
“We are in one of the most prolific periods of innovation and new products in Apple’s history. The amazing products that we’ve introduced in September and October, iPhone 5, iOS 6, iPad mini, iPad, iMac, MacBook Pro, iPod touch, iPod nano and many of our applications, could only have been created at Apple and are the direct result of our relentless focus on tightly integrating world-class hardware, software and services.”
It’s going to be very interesting to see where Apple goes from this point on and what types of products and services we will see as a product of this new collaborative effort. With all of these big names moving around and shifting into more prolific roles though, one can only imagine the innovation that will come from Apple in the future.
