Apple announces M2 Pro and M2 Max MacBook Pro models

Apple has unveiled its latest generation of MacBook Pro laptops, with new M2 Pro and M2 Max chips.

These new chips offer increased performance and battery life, allowing users to tackle more demanding tasks. The M2 Pro chip features up to 12-core CPU and up to 19-core GPU, and the M2 Max chip features up to 38-core GPU, double the memory bandwidth, and up to 96GB of memory. The new MacBook Pro also includes improved connectivity options with support for Wi-Fi 6E and upgraded HDMI with 8K support.

In addition to the new chips, the new MacBook Pro models offer the longest battery life ever in a Mac, with up to 22 hours of runtime. The HDMI port has been updated to the HDMI 2.1 standard, which brings support for 8K displays up to 60Hz and 4K displays up to 240Hz.

These machines offer the first look at the new M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, which were previously not available in any machine. According to Apple, the M2 Pro chip offers 30% more graphics performance, a 40% faster Neural Engine, and 80% faster rendering in Motion compared to the fastest Intel-based MacBook Pro. The M2 Max chip offers 20% greater performance over the M1 Max, 6x faster effects rendering in Cinema 4D, and 2x faster color grading in DaVinci Resolve.

The new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M2 Pro starts at $1,999, or $1,849 for education. The 16-inch MacBook Pro with M2 Pro starts at $2,499, or $2,299 for education. The new MacBook Pro models are available for pre-order today, and will begin shipping on January 24.
