Apple has announced plans to launch a new ‘flagship’ retail location in Melbourne, Australia, at its Federation Square, a shopping center and public square in the city.
According to the Federation Square website, Apple’s new location will become an “Apple Global Flagship Store”, expected to open officially in 2020. The new premises will be Apple’s most significant in the Southern Hemisphere.
As reported in the Federation Square press release, the new Melbourne store will measure in at 500 square meters of space, with the store connecting Federation Square with the Yarra River and Birrarung Marr.
Angela Ahrendts, Apple’s retail chief, told The Australian: “Apple Federation Square respects the original vision for the plaza, with a bespoke design concept and extensive landscaping bringing increased opportunities for the community to enjoy this renowned cultural hub.”
“We’re thrilled to move forward in the planning process for our new home in Melbourne’s Federation Square and would be honored to call the world-class galleries and museums of Melbourne our neighbors.”
Construction on the store will start in 2019, with an official opening expected in 2020.
