Apple Announces New, Likely iPhone Event for September 9

Invitations to Apple’s big launch event for new iPhones had been expected imminently – and, surely enough, the Cupertino company has just sent out invites for a new event on September 9. As is customary with Apple, the invite graphic is rather cryptic, but cheekily quips: “Hey Siri, give us a hint.”

It has been confirmed that the event will start at 10am Pacific Time at the previously-mooted venue of the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco. Though it remains uncertain what Apple will actually unveil on the day, the new products are most expected to include two new iPhone handsets, the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus. Judging from previously-leaked details, the features that these phones should bring to the product line include pressure-sensitive Force Touch technology.

However, the chosen venue’s capacity is several thousand more than that of a typical iPhone launch event building, which suggests that Apple are lining up other, potentially more eye-opening announcements for the big day. Apple might have booked the additional space to house demonstrations of not only the new iPhones, but also a new Apple TV and new iPads.

Is it even possible that Apple CEO Tim Cook could wrap up the whole event with a sensational “one more thing” revealing of, ahead of most observers’ expectations, the long-rumored 12.9-inch “iPad Pro”? This is all mere conjecture, of course – but now we know when all will be revealed…
