Apple Announces New M4-Powered iMac Apple has unveiled the highly anticipated new iMac, equipped with the powerful M4 chip and Apple’s advanced AI system, Apple Intelligence.

90Hz display iMac offers enhanced smoothness and visual clarity for a superior desktop experience.

The redesigned iMac brings a fresh look and cutting-edge performance to Apple’s all-in-one desktop lineup, with significant upgrades in speed, AI capabilities, display options, and connectivity, all housed within a strikingly thin design. Available in an array of bold new colors, the new iMac offers a more personalized and vibrant experience for users ranging from families to professionals.

The centerpiece of the new iMac is the M4 chip, which delivers a major performance boost across the board. With a more capable CPU that includes what Apple describes as the world’s fastest CPU core, the iMac is up to 1.7x faster for everyday productivity tasks and up to 2.1x faster for more demanding workflows like photo editing, video editing, and gaming compared to the previous generation powered by the M1 chip. These performance improvements make the new iMac ideal for a wide range of users, from casual multitaskers to creatives and gamers.

In addition to its faster CPU, the M4’s GPU architecture enhances graphics performance, supporting smoother gameplay and faster rendering of complex tasks in apps like Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Pro. For gamers, the iMac offers up to double the frame rates compared to the M1 version, making it a more immersive platform for gaming titles like the upcoming Civilization VII and Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

Moreover, the M4’s Neural Engine is over 3x faster than in the M1 model, positioning the new iMac as the world’s best all-in-one desktop for AI tasks. The Neural Engine powers advanced AI-driven workflows, including the image and video editing tools that content creators rely on, all while ensuring quick responsiveness and fluidity.

Apple Intelligence, introduced with this release, represents a new era of personal intelligence on the Mac. Built specifically for Apple silicon, Apple Intelligence uses sophisticated generative models and combines them with industry-leading privacy protections to enhance the user experience across the board. Available in U.S. English with macOS Sequoia, Apple Intelligence enables new systemwide Writing Tools for rewriting, proofreading, and summarizing text, making it a powerful tool for productivity.

The system also features a redesigned Siri, allowing users to move seamlessly between typed and spoken requests, making daily tasks quicker and more intuitive. In December, Siri will become even more capable with the integration of ChatGPT, enabling users to leverage its expertise without needing to jump between tools or third-party apps.

Additionally, new Apple Intelligence features such as Image Playground allow users to generate fun, creative images, while Genmoji enables them to create custom emoji with ease. As these features evolve, Apple promises to roll out more advanced capabilities in 2024, expanding the system’s reach to more languages and regions. For tasks requiring more computational power, Apple’s Private Cloud Compute ensures complex AI tasks are handled securely while protecting users’ data and privacy.

The new iMac comes in seven eye-catching colors, including green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver, allowing users to choose a model that best fits their style or workspace. Each iMac features a bold color on the back, while the front side presents a more muted tone to maintain focus on the screen. To complement the design, color-matched accessories are included, such as the Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse or Magic Trackpad, all of which now use USB-C for charging.

The iconic 24-inch 4.5K Retina display remains a highlight, offering stunning clarity and sharpness with over 11.3 million pixels. For the first time, users have the option to choose a nano-texture glass finish, which significantly reduces glare and reflections, making it easier to work in bright environments like sunlit rooms or offices with overhead lighting, while maintaining high image quality.

Apple continues to enhance the video and audio capabilities of its iMac, making it an ideal device for video calls and content creation. The new iMac features a 12MP Center Stage camera with support for Desk View, which uses the ultra-wide lens to keep users centered during video calls, while also showing a top-down view of their desk. This is particularly useful for educators, creators, and professionals giving demonstrations or sharing projects remotely. The three-microphone array delivers studio-quality audio with advanced beamforming to reduce background noise, ensuring clear and professional audio during calls or recordings.

The six-speaker sound system delivers immersive, high-quality sound for music, movies, and video calls, with spatial audio support for an enhanced listening experience. Whether users are enjoying media or engaging in conference calls, the iMac’s audio and video setup is designed to deliver premium results.

The new iMac also steps up its game in terms of connectivity. All four USB-C ports now support Thunderbolt 4, enabling fast data transfers and versatile connections to accessories like external storage, high-performance docks, and up to two 6K external displays. This makes the iMac a productivity powerhouse, capable of handling massive workloads across multiple displays, ideal for professionals needing extra screen real estate.

The iMac is also future-proofed with Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3, ensuring faster wireless performance and greater range for all connected devices. For security, Touch ID is built into the Magic Keyboard, allowing users to unlock their iMac, make secure purchases with Apple Pay, and easily switch between user profiles with just a touch.
