Apple has announced a new service program for defective iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro models.
Earlier in the year, it was reported that some users had experienced issues with speakers on their iPhone 12 models, and now Apple has launched a program to help fix these. The company says that a small number of devices might “experience sound issues due to a component that might fail on the receiver module,” marking the first program of its kind for the iPhone 12 lineup, almost a year from its release.
As expected, the issue only affects a “very small percentage” of handsets that were manufactured between October 2020 and April 2021, and eligible users who have an iPhone 12 that doesn’t emit sound when you receive or make calls can send off their device to Apple for repair or a replacement.
“Apple has determined that a very small percentage of iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro devices may experience sound issues due to a component that might fail on the receiver module. Affected devices were manufactured between October 2020 and April 2021,” the company said in a statement.
“If your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro does not emit sound from the receiver when you make or receive calls, it may be eligible for service.”
It’s important to mention that only the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro models are covered as part of this program – it’s believed that the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max aren’t affected by the issue.
