Apple announces seventh-generation iPad with larger display

A seventh-generation iPad displays a fantasy action game. The game features a character with spiky hair in an adventurous pose, wielding a flaming sword. Various gaming icons and stats are visible on the larger display, set against a backdrop of a dramatic sky and floating islands.

Apple has announced the successor to the 2018 9.7-inch iPad.

The new 10.2-inch iPad arrives around a year and a half after the previous generation and features a larger display that’s just smaller than the 10.5-inch iPad Air 3, which was unveiled six months ago.

The device’s stunning new 10.2-inch Retina display with nearly 3.5 million pixels allows users to spend more time enjoying more than a million iPad apps, as well as the latest games with Apple Arcade and eye-opening new shows on Apple TV+, which arrives in November.

The new iPad will support iPadOS 13, as well as Apple’s Smart Connector, Apple Pencil support, A10 Fusion processor, bringing it in line with the rest of the iPad family.

“The new iPad packs even more value into our most popular and affordable iPad model featuring a bigger 10.2-inch Retina display, support for Apple Pencil and for the first time, the full-size Smart Keyboard,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of Product Marketing.

“The new iPad was built to run iPadOS, which introduces powerful new ways to multitask, manage and mark up documents, use Apple Pencil and view more information at a glance on a redesigned Home screen.

“This new iPad with iPadOS takes everything people love about our most popular iPad and makes it even better for creating, learning, working and playing.”

Available for pre-order today, the device starts at just $329, and orders will begin shipping out by September 30th.

Students are able to pick up the device for just $299 in the United States, though pricing varies around the world.
