Apple celebrates Earth Day with Ziggy Marley Concert

Millions are celebrating Earth Day through demonstrations and gatherings and Apple is no exception. Apple has shown its commitment to the environment through a concert, Apple Music playlists, uniform changes, movie rental offers, and more!

On Friday, April 20, Apple held their annual Beer Bash concert and this year’s event had a twist. The concert featured a performance by Ziggy Marley, who stated in a tweet that his performance was his “first set fully powered by solar energy.” He addressed Apple directly, “Thank you for the example you set for companies around the world.”

Lisa Jackson, Apple’s vice president of environment, policy and social issues, attended the concert and in a tweet she reminded Apple Watch users how they can support Earth Day by taking on Apple’s challenge. To complete the challenge users needed to do a 30-minute workout.

This is just one of the many ways Apple is supporting Earth Day. Just last week, we reported that Apple store employees would be trading their traditional navy shirts for green alternatives. Apple has also created a series of playlists on Apple Music, iTunes movies and iBooks. Look out for the “Mixtape for Mother Earth” on Apple Music for songs “inspired by our planet’s natural wonders”, and don’t miss the collection of $0.99 rentals in the iTunes Movies store for films including positive messages about the environment.

The company also just announced that:

For every device “received at Apple stores and apple.com through the Apple GiveBack program from now through April 30, the company will make a donation to the non-profit Conservation International.”

All these events come just weeks after Apple announced the company is officially now powered by 100% renewable energy. Apple is certainly paving the way for other international companies to make protecting their planet a top priority.
