While Apple’s plans for virtual reality seem unclear at this point, co-founder Steve Wozniak has expressed hope that the Cupertino company is developing a VR project that, upon its unveil, will blow the similar efforts of rivals Google and Samsung out of the water.
Speaking recently in Lexington, Kentucky, at an Alltech conference where he received the Alltech Humanitarian Award, Wozniak revealed his keen interest in virtual reality. TechRepublic reports his voiced opinion that the technology “is going to have a big future. It could die like 3D TV. But there will be a lot of games possible and that’s enough to make the market work.”
He singled out the above-pictured Samsung Gear VR for praise, remarking: “It takes you to other worlds. It’s so real. It’s everywhere you look. That one gets me emotional.” However, while claiming not to know what Apple’s in-development projects are, he admitted: “I hope Apple is working on a VR that’s advanced compared to the ones we’re seeing.”
Typically secretive Apple has not confirmed whether it is indeed busying itself in this way – though some patent filings and, in January, tantalizing words from CEO Tim Cook might suggest so.
