If you still have Apple’s QuickTime installed on a Windows PC, it’s time to remove it. Apple has confirmed that QuickTime 7 will no longer be supported or updated on Windows, which means that anyone now leaving it on their Windows computer is posing a security risk.
Last week, researchers at Trend Micro were reported to have discovered two new security holes which could be used to launch malicious files within QuickTime 7 on Windows. However, it was thought that fixes from Apple were not forthcoming, as the Cupertino corporation was said to be “deprecating” the software.
Apple has now confirmed this move to The Wall Street Journal. Apple’s website includes detailed instructions for uninstalling Windows 7 for Windows, and anyone with the software still on their Windows PC should follow these steps as soon as possible. On Windows, the iTunes software can easily replace QuickTime as a media player, as it is capable of playing back the same video and audio files.
