Apple has confirmed that its redesigned Apple Maps is now available across the US.
The company says that the new Maps offers faster, more accurate navigation, as well as better coverage, improved detailing, and a refined user experience to better serve travelers.
Though the rollout of the new Apple Maps actually happened last month, Apple today officially announced that the new mapping software has reached all of its users.
And users outside of the United States need not worry – Eddy Cue says that Europe is coming next.
“We set out to create the best and most private maps app on the planet that is reflective of how people explore the world today,” he said in a press release.
“It is an effort we are deeply invested in and required that we rebuild the map from the ground up to reimagine how Maps enhances people’s lives — from navigating to work or school or planning an important vacation — all with privacy at its core.”
“The completion of the new map in the United States and delivering new features like Look Around and Collections are important steps in bringing that vision to life. We look forward to bringing this new map to the rest of the world starting with Europe later this year.”
As well as adding more details and redesigning the user interface, the new Apple Maps introduces a bunch of new features, such as Look Around, which offers a street-level view similar to Google Maps, as well as 3D photography, available in cities like New York and Las Vegas.
Apple has said that more cities and highly-populated areas will follow soon.
The new Apple Maps also focuses on privacy, with Apple telling users that there’s no connection between an Apple Maps search and your Apple ID.
In fact, Maps actually will obscure a user’s location on Apple Servers using “fuzzing,” only converting the precise location on the user’s device, offering peace of mind in today’s privacy-conscious times.
