With the new iMac Pro now available to purchase online and in retail stores from this week, pro consumers have been waiting for more details on the upcoming Mac Pro.
Apple announced this year that it was working on an all-new supercomputer, the first update since the Mac Pro of 2013, and now has spilt details on the new product.
In a press release that was distributed to journalists alongside the iMac Pro release, Apple said: “In addition to the new iMac Pro, Apple is working on a completely redesigned, next-generation Mac Pro architected for pro customers who need the highest performance, high-throughput system in a modular, upgradeable design, as well as a new high-end pro display.”
This is the first confirmation that the new Mac Pro will be upgradeable and customisable, giving users more control over their devices and allowing them to be powered in the way that suits their needs. Typically, Mac Pro users are designers and video editors.
The announcement also confirms that a new high-end display will be released in 2018 after Apple discontinued its Thunderbolt Display in 2016.
It remains to be seen when the new Mac Pro will be unveiled, but critics expect a mid-2018 announcement with a fall launch. Are you excited? Let us know your thoughts on Twitter using @AppleMagazine, and check back soon for more news on the Mac Pro.
