Apple could sell more than 250 million iPhones next year, according to investment bank Wedbush.
The company’s supply chain checks suggest that the company is on course for one of its biggest years yet, following years of falling iPhone sales due to lack of innovation.
According to Wedbush, Apple has not had a similar iPhone trajectory since 2014 with the iPhone 6, demonstrating the huge demand for the iPhone 12 range, which saw the company release four new models, including the iPhone 12 mini with a smaller all-screen form factor.
The investment bank conducted an Asian supply chain check for iPhones, revealing that demand for 5G-enabled iPhones exceeded the company’s own “bull case scenario” and will go on to break records. The report highlights that Apple will round out the December quarter with up to 95 million iPhone unit assemblies, around a third more than initially expected.
Should that trend continue through the holiday season, Apple could ship upwards of 240 million units next year, with the analysts adding that Apple could ship close to 250 million in total. If it did, it would be the biggest year yet for the iPhone, breaking 2015’s record of 231 million devices. That’s thanks to the “supercycle” which saw Apple make significant changes to its smartphone range, including an all-new design and 5G capabilities for the first time.
What’s particularly exciting about the news is that Apple is set to introduce even more new features as part of its 2021 models, with some analysts suggesting that Apple will double the storage capacity on its devices, and even introduce LiDAR cameras for the first time.
