Apple has cut back on the number of available iMac models ahead of a rumored relaunch.
As of today (March 22), the company has limited the availability of the 21.5-inch iMac, removing the 512GB and 1TB flash storage options, which suggests that changes are on the way for the product line. Apple’s been rumored to redesign the iMac for a number of years.
Earlier in the month, sources suggested that Apple has stopped producing the 512GB and 1TB SSD configurations of the standard iMac, and now, the only options available are the 256GB SSD and 1TB Fusion Drive. It’s still possible to purchase other upgrades, like CPU and memory upgrades, though it could be that Apple’s burning through stock ahead of a new product drop in the weeks or months ahead.
The news follows Apple’s decision to permanently discontinue the iMac Pro.
It’s likely that Apple is readying the release of a new iMac with Apple Silicon. A redesign to the iMac’s chassis is also expected, featuring the same “design language” as the iPad Pro.
