Apple is set to empower budding coders with Swift Playgrounds, an iPad app which students and novices can use to learn the ins and outs of Apple’s own programming language, Swift, in a fun and easy way.
Swift Playgrounds takes users through programming lessons where core coding concepts are learned in order to guide the innovative app’s on-screen characters through various puzzles and challenges in a vibrant graphical world. Apple has also thrown in templates and the option to share completed programs over Mail or Messages.
“I wish Swift Playgrounds was around when I was first learning to code,” Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering, revealed in a press release. “Swift Playgrounds is the only app of its kind that is both easy enough for students and beginners, yet powerful enough to write real code.”
Apple Developer Program members with access to the developer preview of iOS 10 can also access a beta version of Swift Playgrounds from today. The app will later become available with the public beta of iOS 10 in July, before the final version arrives free-to-download from the App Store in the fall.
