Apple has pushed back plans to get staff to return to its offices.
According to an internal email, Apple will allow staff to work from home until at least February 2022 amidst rising coronavirus cases in the United States and the upcoming winter period, which will see higher cases of flu.
Apple CEO Tim Cook sent an email to employees, writing: “As of today, we are targeting February 1, 2022 to begin our hybrid work pilot in many global locations where teams have not yet returned to our corporate offices.”
The company has already revealed that when staff do return to the office, it will be hybrid. In the first month, employees will be asked to work in the office two days a week, and then three. Staff will also be given a four weeks allowance to work from home for up to a month per year, which will no doubt be valuable to some of them.
“This provides more opportunity to travel, be closer to your loved ones, or simply shake up your routines,” Cook said in a statement to staff.
Apple faced criticism earlier in the year for asking staff to return to the workplace, and following backlash from employees and the media it delayed its return to work program. The new scheme sets out exactly when staff will be expected to return, and offers a more flexible and generous approach.
