Apple Developing Apple TV App for Android Phones Apple is working to bring its Apple TV app to Android phones and tablets, hiring engineers to develop the software, according to Bloomberg. This move follows the company’s previous creation of an app for the Android smart TV platform but not for Android mobile devices.

Currently, Android users who want to watch Apple TV+ shows or access the MLS Season Pass must use the web at tv.apple.com.

A native app, however, would offer a better user experience, potentially including features like offline downloads.

The Apple TV app offers a variety of functions: streaming Apple TV+ originals, accessing other Apple TV channels, renting and buying movies and shows, and viewing Apple’s expanding sports content such as Friday Night Baseball and the MLS Season Pass.

Making the TV app available on Android would align it with Apple’s other major content service, Apple Music, which launched on Android the same year it debuted on iOS in 2015. By contrast, the current version of the TV app has been exclusive to iPhones since its 2019 debut.

Outside of mobile, Apple has expanded the TV app to many third-party platforms to attract more viewers to Apple TV+.

It is available on Roku, Amazon Fire Stick, PlayStation, Xbox, Xfinity cable boxes, and even as a Windows desktop app released last year.

This development marks a significant shift, with the prospect of making it easier for non-iPhone users to access Apple TV+.

However, it is unclear how long it will take for the Android version to be released, as development has seemingly only just begun.
