Apple has already announced plans to end 32-bit support for apps on its iOS devices in iOS 11, and now the Cupertino firm has revealed that outdated macOS apps will soon suffer the same fate.
Speaking at the Platform State of the Union keynote at the Worldwide Developers Conference, executives told attendees that macOS High Sierra would be the “last macOS release to support 32-bit apps without compromises.”
Apple also confirmed that in January of 2018, all new macOS apps that are submitted to the Mac App Store will need to be 64-bit, wit updates to all existing Mac apps needing to adopt to 64-bit by June.
When Apple releases the next macOS after High Sierra, they will “aggressively” warn users about outdated 31-bit apps.
