Apple is offering users who purchase an Apple TV a $50 gift card.
The company first launched the promotion in the United States last week, running from July 1 through July 14; the promotion has returned for a second round, from August 1 to August 15.
For the first time, the promotion is now running in other countries, including the United Kingdom, where Apple offers a Ā£40 gift card when purchasing an Apple TV HD or Apple TV 4K from Apple.com or at an Apple Store. The deal is available in several European countries, offering a ā¬50 gift card.
It’s an unusual move for Apple – the company rarely offers promotions on its website and even less for specific products like the Apple TV. The chances are that Apple is preparing for the release of a new Apple TV box later this year and wants to shift stock before a likely September announcement.
Rumors suggest that Apple’s next Apple TV will feature an A14 chip and a cheaper price tag to increase sales in the smart home market. Running the gift card promotion helps Apple clear unsold inventory, and because it’s a card rather than a discount, it incentivizes users to purchase more from Apple.com in the future.
