Apple expected to ship 90 million AirPods in 2020

Apple could sell as many as 90 million pairs of AirPods products this year, according to a source within Apple’s supply chain (via the somewhat reliable Apple insiders DigiTimes).

The report suggests that AirPods shipments will soar 50% in 2020, with Apple selling as many as 90 million units around the world.

That’s what supply chain insiders are predicting for the year ahead, with Apple ordering more AirPods – and working on a next-generation version of its AirPods, rumored to be called AirPods Pro Lite, for release later this year.

Right now, Apple reports its AirPods sales as part of its Wearables and Accessories product division, though the company does not reveal individual sales or unit figures for each of its products.

Last year, the wearables category overtook the Mac category for the very first time.

If the above were due, it would mean Apple had sold 60 million AirPods in 2019, which is not unbelievable considering their immense growth and regular supply chain issues.

Indeed, since the new AirPods Pro were released in October, Apple has struggled to keep up with demand, with the units regularly out of stock or with delayed delivery dates.
