Apple’s new rugged Apple Watch will have ‘low sales’ to start due to its high price tag, according to reports.
Display analyst Ross Young suggests that the new model, which will feature a larger 1.99-inch display and a bunch of new features designed to appeal to professional athletes and sportspeople, will sell in low volume compared to Apple’s main Apple Watch range.
Speaking to MacRumors, Young said that the model has low forecasted sales, with Apple expected to ship just one million units in the third quarter of this year, compared with four million 45mm Apple Watch Series 8 units. There has been suggestion that Apple will call the new rugged watch the Apple Watch Pro, or the Apple Watch Athletes Edition, but nothing is confirmed just yet.
According to a separate report, the new model will go on sale for between $900 and $999, considerably more than the standard Apple Watch range. That’s thanks to a bigger screen, larger battery, and new features such as improved fitness tracking and a metal enclosure.
