During a recent meeting with Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo, Apple CEO Tim Cook expressed the company’s interest in exploring manufacturing opportunities within the country. This discussion is part of Apple’s broader strategy to diversify its production bases beyond China, amidst ongoing geopolitical tensions and supply chain vulnerabilities.
Indonesia is keen to attract foreign investments to boost its economy and establish itself as a key player in international manufacturing. The country’s efforts to become a new hub for global business align with Apple’s objective to mitigate risks associated with over-reliance on Chinese manufacturing facilities, primarily managed by Foxconn.
Tim Cook’s visit to Indonesia follows his trip to Vietnam, where he engaged with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to discuss expanding Apple’s investments and collaborations with local suppliers. These moves underline Apple’s commitment to strengthening its supply chain resilience and its presence in Southeast Asia.
“I think the investment ability in Indonesia is endless. There are many great places to invest, and we’re investing. We believe in the country,” Cook remarked, highlighting the region’s potential.
