How Apple is keeping us fit

It’s hard to imagine visiting the gym or going out for a jog without our iPhone in tow.

Today, the iPhone has become an essential part of the workout, whether you’re a fitness fanatic or you’re a couch potato trying to shift some pounds before your summer vacation.

With iPhone, you’re able to listen to your favorite tracks on Apple Music, get lost in a Podcast and use the Activity app to track your progress and make sure you’ve done enough for the day.

When combined with the Health app, where you can monitor your everyday health and integrate third-party apps to monitor your calorie intake and everything else, Apple has built the world’s most advanced fitness ecosystem – a Control Centre for your body, so to speak.

Apple didn’t pivot towards the healthcare industry overnight – first, with the launch of the Apple Watch, and subsequently through software and hardware releases.

Screen Time is another fantastic demonstration of Apple’s commitment not only to our physical wellbeing but our mental wellbeing, too. And as the company integrates further technologies into iOS and watchOS in the coming years, it’s clear that Apple is building the ultimate fitness ecosystem

Fitness apps reinventing the way we work out

Whilst Apple provides the foundation and the data to help us get fit, it’s the third-party app developers that make workouts more manageable.

No longer do we have to stare at the gym wall or our living room floors to enjoy a workout – we can get personalized, professional help at the touch of a button from our iPhone and iPad.

Take the 30 Day Fitness Challenge app, for example, which for $4.99 per week will put together weekly equipment-free workout routines based on your current ability and goals.

Select a challenge such as Cardio Blast or Sexy Legs and Butt and tune in daily for a workout video made just for you, each ranging from 14 to 26 minutes.

Of course, you’ll need to back up your daily workout with healthy habits and a balanced diet, but when combined with a calorie tracker such as MyFitnessPal, you can easily lose weight fast.

Combining food and exercise together in one package is the 8fit Workout and Meal Planner app, which costs $60 per year via an in-app subscription.

For those trying to increase their cardio levels, the custom workout routines offered by 8fit are a perfect choice, with AI calculating a workout plan based on your weight, goals, and fitness criterion, like how many pushups you can do in a row. You can track your steps and health, and take part in classes such as yoga to go the extra mile.

The Nike + Run Club, on the other hand, is a free goal-based application designed to help you hit new records and build training plans to get you across the finish line.

Whether you’re aiming for 5K, 10K, 15K or even a full marathon, its training plans are based on your current pace and how often you are able to train, adapting workouts based on your progress to help you get to your goal.
