Apple Increases Component Orders for Apple Watch Series 2

The Apple Watch Series 2 was unveiled on Wednesday, and Apple clearly expects it to be a hit. The company has increased chip and component orders for the wearable, meaning that monthly shipment volumes now exceed 2 million units for both August and September, reports DigiTimes.

The news outlet claims to have learned this from Taiwan supply chain sources ā€“ who reportedly have viewed this boost in orders as an indicator of Appleā€™s continuing confidence about how sales of the Apple Watch Series 2, which notably introduces swim tracking features and GPS, will fare.

While Apple has never revealed its own figures for how well the first generation Apple Watch has sold, analysts have estimated that about 12 million units were shipped in the productā€™s first year. Therefore, sales of 2 million units for the Apple Watch Series 2 for each month of its first year would see it sell twice as much as its predecessor over an identical period of time.
