Apple has just announced a premium gaming subscription service for iOS games at its Steve Jobs Theater Special Event.

Apple Arcade will allow users on iOS, macOS, and tvOS the ability to pay a monthly fee for a bundle of paid games on the App Store, offering huge potential savings.

The company said that it was working with a number of games studios and premium publishers to develop Apple Arcade and that the service would bring together gaming on mobile, desktop, and TV with a single subscription.

Apple added that users would be able to sync their games so they could play cross-platform, and that offline playing would also be available on all Apple Arcade titles.

The news comes just days after Google launched its own new gaming service, Stadia, which will allow users to stream and play high-end games on their smartphone.

Apple takes a different approach, targeting casual mobile gamers, so it will be interesting to see how the new service plays out, and whether Apple will be able to convince users to part with their cash and pay for another monthly subscription.

Apple Arcade is yet to be priced, but the service is set to launch later in the year in more than 150 countries. Keep it AppleMagazine.com for all of the latest news.
