Apple has announced the new rumored rugged Apple Watch, known as the Apple Watch Ultra.

The company says that the new watch offers a “new bold design and a wide range of features built for endurance, exploration, and adventure,” appealing to the sports market and serves as an alternative to Garmin watches as Apple looks to further increase its share of the wearable sector.

The new product features a stunning 49mm titanium case, larger than the new Series 8, and a flat sapphire front crystal to offer better endurance. The model also features a new customizable Action button, which can be programmed for workouts and other functions making it easier than ever to track performance on the go.

The new wearable offers an impressive 36-hour battery life during normal use, and a new low-power setting can extend battery life to reach up to 60 hours.

Other new features include a Wayfinder watch face designed specifically for the larger Apple Watch Ultra, and the introduction of new Loop bands, Alpine Loop bands, and the Ocean Band.

Speaking of the new wearable, Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer, said: “Inspired by explorers and athletes from around the world, we created an entirely new category of Apple Watch designed for new and extreme environments — it’s the most rugged and capable Apple Watch yet. Apple Watch Ultra is a versatile tool that empowers users to push their boundaries with adventure, endurance, and exploration.”

Consumers can order the Apple Watch Ultra today, with the device shipping from September 23.
