Apple has introduced a new extension for Google Chrome, bringing iCloud Passwords to Windows.
The company has offered iTunes and iCloud Sync on Windows for a number of years, and now it appears Apple wants to offer consumers a safer password manager.
The firm released the extension to the Chrome Web Store on Sunday, telling users that āiCloud Passwords allows you to use the same strong Safari passwords you create on your Apple device, with Chrome on Windows.ā
The news comes as Apple updates iCloud for Windows to version 12.0, which teased the release of a new password management tool on Windows.
When users download the extension, theyāll be able to access passwords theyāve created or had automatically generated by Apple, or saved on Safari for iOS or macOS. The sync works both ways, so new credentials will be stored in your iCloud Keychain for future use on iPhones and Macs.
When users try to sign into a website or web app, the new extension will prompt users to āChoose from a saved password,ā making using Windows more convenient for Apple users.
Apple has slowly been expanding its service offerings outside of macOS and iOS, releasing an Apple TV+ app for Xbox and other third-party operating systems, and it could even bring Apple Music and Apple Podcasts to Windows later in the year, according to some reports.
