Apple has introduced an all-new MacBook Air, offering faster performance, a new scissor-switch Magic Keyboard, twice the storage than the previous generation, and a new lower $999 price tag.
The company had planned to launch a range of new products at a special March event from its Apple Campus, but the ongoing coronavirus outbreak forced the Cupertino firm to change its strategy. Rather than holding off until its virtual Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple made the decision to launch the new MacBook Air on its site.
The new MacBook Air offers up to twice the CPU performance than the previous generation thanks to the latest 10th-generation Intel Core processors up to 1.2GHz quad-core Core i7 with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.8GHz, and up to 80% faster graphics performance, perfect for students, professionals, and gamers playing Apple Arcade titles on their Macs.
The base model now comes with 256GB of storage, a 13-inch Retina display for vivid images and sharp text, and Touch ID integrated into an all-new keyboard, offering easy login and more secure online purchases.
Speaking of the new device, Tom Boger, Apple’s senior director of Mac and iPad Product Marketing, said: “From students and consumers buying their first computer to customers looking to upgrade, everyone loves the Mac, and they especially love MacBook Air.
“Today we’re giving it a huge update, with two times faster performance, the new Magic Keyboard, double the storage, a new lower price of $999 and an even lower price of $899 for education.”
“With its stunning, thin and light design, brilliant Retina display, all-day battery life and the power and ease-of-use of macOS, MacBook Air is the world’s best consumer notebook.”
An exciting new addition to the MacBook Air is quad-core processors, offering increased speed for all activities, from organizing photos in the Photos app to editing videos for friends, family, and YouTube.
Other new features in the 2020 MacBook Air include a three-way mic for clearer voice capture for FaceTime calls, an improved Force Touch trackpad offering precise cursor control and multi-touch navigation, support for a 6K External display, and Thunderbolt 3 ports for data transfer, making it a viable “affordable” option for professionals.
The new MacBook Air is now available to pre-order on Apple.com and the Apple Store app. Stay tuned for more coverage on all of Apple’s exciting new announcements, right here at AppleMagazine.
